Jenailution is a mix series that I created to really help with my focus on recover, taking me back to my roots and it really doesn’t get anymore grounded for me than indulging in the sounds of arguably one of the greatest producers of all time, Todd Edwards.

Some of you may know him as one of the faces behind the legendary Daft Punk, or some may know him due to the best DJ who ever lived, DJ EZ, who never missed playing a Todd track in nearly every set I’ve ever heard him play. But for me, Todd represented the start of my entire DJ’ing obsession.

I was still in year 6 and a fresh-faced ten-year-old when I begged my mum to invest in a pair of belt drive decks for me. I remember being at my local youth club and Shy FX (yes, the actual Shy FX lol) used to visit and do sets for us and introduced some of the local kids to DJ’ing. Believe it or not, back then being a DJ wasn’t really the thing to do, everyone was more interested in being a footballer and or some kind of gangster. But for me, I became hooked the moment I heard him explain exactly how it all worked and knew then this is what I had to do.

I remember asking Shy what I should buy and he gave me the name of some cheap belt drive decks to buy, as he knew we were all from pretty poor backgrounds. I went and purchased a Loot newspaper (eBay in newspaper form) and scanned the paper for weeks waiting for them to pop up.

After bugging the hell out of my mum, a pair turned up in the classifieds and we drove all the way to South London I think it was, to pick them up. I was in heaven! The man who sold them to me even gave me a few vinyl’s he had laying around and one of them was an EP from Todd Edwards on Nervous Records. I was really into Jungle and Hardcore at the time but also loved the Chicago House sound that started to seep out of the USA and when I got home and listened to this EP from a producer called ;Todd Edwards’, I knew then my whole world had changed forever.

I have been lucky enough to have had a few deep and personal convo’s with the main man himself over the years at random events, seen him play live more times than I can count and gladly boast one of the largest Todd Edwards collections I think known to man. This mix represented just a tiny selection of tracks that I could listen to over and over again. It takes me back to those early days of trying my very best to match up beats using my newly purchased second-hand belt drive decks that I had to fight with to lock in the mix, while my friends all sat on my bed in awe and passers-by my bedroom window would shout up requests and dance in the street, gun fingers galore.
