As I was still largely keeping my head down at the start of 2010, I hadn’t had a chance to put together the latest edition to my favourite mix series, Dubfluence.
As Dubfluence mixes are deeply therapeutic and personal to me, it took me five months to get around to building up the energy to feel like I could do a new mix the justice it deserves. This mix series isn’t just a simple thrown together compilation of tracks, it’s literally a spiritual journey I put myself on. Dubfluence showcases my inner vulnerabilities and pain, my remorse, regret, my guilt and my soul. I would literally draw a curve and pattern out the mix to make sure it took others on the spiritual journey I was currently on in my life. It may sound a tad eccentric to some, but it’s how I learned to cope and creating mixes that reflected my innermost thoughts and feelings helped get me through some terribly dark times.
This mix started with probably a track that sits in my top ten of all time, CMYK by James Blake. Throw in some Joy Orbison, Digital Mystikz, Duncan Powell, Roska and of course some Burial and I’m sure you can start to picture my current mood way back then and start to decipher what so many of us have been going through for a very long time.
