I grew up in the 80s, on a mixture of Lovers Rock, Reggae, R&B and Ballads. My passion for bass is nothing compared to my love for anything that connects directly to the soul.
As Dubstep grew, the bass got darker, the drops got nastier and the sound was turning more robotic every day that passed. As much as I enjoyed a hefty drop, I also needed something to counter that bass injection and needed to zone out too. I needed to create something that represented my inner thoughts, my feelings, and my struggles, because my life up until that point had been clouded in traumas I don’t dare share online.
There weren’t any mixes out there that really delivered the sound I was looking for and there was so much amazing new talent not being exposed for their much deeper and eclectic sounds. I needed the therapy and that’s when Dubfluence was born.
I wanted it to be a range of tracks that had a Dubstep influenced sound, but to include music that carried more soul and depth. It had to be more than just a quick drop for the rave, I needed it to be the mix you listen too on the night bus home.
The moment the promo for Little Dragon’s ‘Twice’ remix by 16bit landed in my inbox, I knew exactly what I wanted this mix to sound like and it’s by far my favorite series I’ve ever created. As much as Dubfluencial is my most popular mix series to date, Dubfluence has always been the series that enabled me to really begin to connect with people on a spiritual level from all around the world.
