Sony recently announced a new model of the PS3; named PS3 Slim. Sony says the new model will have the exact same functionality as the PS3, but is 33% smaller, 36% lighter and comes with a 120GB hard drive. They say the internal architecture has been completely redesigned “from the main semiconductors and power supply unit to the cooling mechanism.”
It’s powered by a new 45nm version of the Cell processor, which runs at the same speed as the 60nm processor in the PS3 but is smaller and more energy efficient, which gave Sony the feasibility to completely redesign the inside. Not only has the inside been changed but the texture of the outside has a new finish which gets rid of the annoying finger prints which are left on the current PS3! (If you own one you’ll know what I’m talking about). It will be available on September 1st in Europe and North America for 299 Euros.
